The 2022 West Greene High School ladies soccer team under Coach Kimberly Shelton recently collected teddy bears and other stuffed animals for the Tusculum Police Department’s “Teddy Bears for Trauma” program.

“This program provides officers of the police department with stuffed animals to keep in their patrol cars to help children that suffer from trauma they may be going through or have witnessed,” Tusculum police Chief Danny Greene said.

Greene said that according to Psychology Today, “stuffed animals are seen as transitional objects that help young children learn important sensory and emotional skills.”

A teddy bear “can be a tool to help prevent separation anxiety while acting as a ‘friend’ to keep them feeling safe and secure,” Greene said.
