It’s September and fall activities are in full swing! Think apple picking, pumpkin picking, scarecrow making, corn mazes, festivals – even bird watching and train rides. Plan an outdoor activity to get some quality family time and much-needed fresh air!

Pep Boys NHRA Nationals Maple Grove Raceway, Mohnton, PA Thursday – Sunday The NHRA Countdown to the Championship begins at one of the fastest tracks on the circuit. This is the opening event in the six-race NHRA playoffs as championship drivers in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle will look to start their world championship bids with a win at the fan-favorite facility.

Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day The Shannon Rose Irish Pub, Clifton Celebrate all weekend with Irish music, step dancers, bagpipers, brunch, football, and Irish soda bread making for kids. This is part of the grand reopening weekend festivities for the pub.

New Jersey State Firemen’s Convention Wildwoods Convention Center, Wildwood Friday – Saturday The convention attracts thousands of firefighters and their families throughout New Jersey to the island for equipment displays, meetings, seminars, vendors and a parade. Firetrucks and fire apparatus from around the state will be displayed in the Wildwoods Convention Center parking lots.

Boots @ the Beach Country Music Fest North Wildwood Friday – Sunday The entertainment lineup is expected to be jam-packed at this massive country music festival. Details will be released soon.

Comedy Festival Eagle Theatre, Hammonton Friday – Sunday Expect a lot of laughs this weekend. Friday is Latin Laughs, Saturday is the Jersey Funniest Female Comedian contest, and Sunday is the Dad Joke Competition! Please note that only Sunday is open to kids.

Bergen County’s Fall Harvest Festival Van Saun County Park, Paramus Friday – Sunday Over the course of three days, stop by for a midway, rides, food, a craft fair, exhibits, entertainment and live music.

“Bring It On” The Musical Vanguard Theater Company, Montclair Friday – Sunday Summerstock VTC is an intensive sleep-away program in West Milford for the serious musical theater performer ages 13–19. They will present “Bring It On” in four separate performances over the weekend.

Monster Truckz Chaos Tour Rockaway Townsquare, Rockaway Friday – Sunday The 90-minute show is action-packed with extreme car crushing, plus the free Pit Party to learn all the inner workings of the giant Monster Truckz, photos with the drivers, a Kids Fun Zone, a bounce house, face painting and food.

XPoNential Music Festival Camden Waterfront, Camden Friday – Sunday Grab tickets for three nights of music, food and entertainment inside the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion and outside at Wiggins Park.

New Jersey Sports Card Convention iPlay America, Freehold Twp. Friday – Sunday Spend the weekend satisfying all of your sports collecting needs!

Sea.Hear.Now Asbury Park Saturday – Sunday Come out for two days of sand and surf during the all-day Sea.Hear.Now festival, featuring more than 25 performances on three stages along the Asbury Park waterfront. Headliners include Stevie Nicks, Green Day, Skip Marley and My Morning Jacket. Plus, watch surfers in the ocean, grab a bite to eat and visit an art gallery.

Feast of San Gennaro Main Street, Belmar Enjoy lots of Italian food, music, games and fun.

Oktoberfest Mountain Creek, Vernon Saturday – Sunday Experience Oktoberfest with live music; a wide variety of German, domestic and seasonal beers, ciders and more; authentic German food; and activities for kids and adults alike. This year, Mountain Creek will vastly expand its serving lines with six beer trailers and more than a dozen satellite stations with craft beer, seltzer and canned cocktails.

Oktoberfest Dover Saturday – Sunday There will be German delicacies and beer on the menu. The scheduled music lineup is Bud & Linda, The Bavarsaki Brothers and David Batz.

Scarecrow Making Workshops Peddler’s Village, New Hope, PA Saturday – Sunday They provide the straw, clothing and instructions, and you provide the creativity! During the village festival and you can make and take your own scarecrow. Stay for live music, entertainment, shopping and great food.

Fall Family Fun Weekends Terhune Orchards, Princeton Saturday – Sunday There is so much to do here you may have to go both days! The Robert Cray Band Mayo Performing Arts Center, Morristown The Robert Cray Band brings 40 years of the blues to MPAC this fall. The Robert Cray Band features Robert Cray on guitar and vocals, Richard Cousins on bass, Dover Weinberg on keyboards and Les Falconer on drums.

New Jersey State Firemen’s Parade Wildwood Join firemen from around New Jersey for their annual parade, which starts at 2 pm at NJ Avenue and Cresse Road. Stay all day and enjoy fireworks on the beach at Pine Avenue at 9 pm.

Oktoberfest Skylands Stadium, Augusta With more than 25 seasonal beers, traditional German food specials, live music, and games/competitions, this event includes admission, a 32 oz. souvenir stein and one draft fill. Also find various games including a stein holding contest, keg squatting, cornhole, kan jam and giant pong. Love for Luca 5K Middletown Middletown resident Luca Iacono was born in October 2008 but sadly passed away in November 2019 at age 11. Great Pumpkin Fest Dorney Park, Allentown, PA Saturdays and Sundays, Sept. 17 – Oct. 30 Hop on your tractor, pirate ship or witch’s broom and hurry on over for a super-sized celebration of all things fall. There will be a full harvest of amazing, fall-tastic fun for everyone with games, activities and just a speck of spooky for pint-sized ghosts and goblins. In the Wildwater Kingdom section, you’ll meet members of the Peanuts Gang, make a holiday craft at Charlie Brown’s Craft Corner, pedal your way through the farm on a mini tractor at the Daisy Hill Tractor Stomp, try to find your way out of Linus’ Hay Bale Maze, visit your favorite farm animals at Peppermint Patty’s Petting Zoo, trick-or-treat down the street, have a ton of fun while being quiet during Schroeder’s Silent Disco, and enjoy all the usual rides and games. And make sure you catch one of the special shows, which include balloon art, a dance party, a costume contest and story time.

Carousel Corn Maze Howell Living History Farm, Hopewell Twp. Weekends (Sept. 17 – Oct. 30) Take your family to “get lost” in a 4-acre cornfield with pathways cut in the shape of an old-fashioned carousel. While wandering through, find eight “puzzle pieces” located in hidden mailboxes to complete your personal map of the maze. The maze courtyard also features a pumpkin patch, hayrides, food tent and kids’ hay-bale maze.

The Count’s Halloween Spooktacular Sesame Place, Langhorne, PA Select dates (from Sept. 17 – Nov. 6) Kids will enjoy trick-or-treating around the park, Halloween-themed shows and parades, participating in the interactive Scarecrow Scavenger Hunt and taking pictures with all the characters who will be dressed up in their own costumes. Chinese Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival Bridgewater Commons, Bridgewater Daily (through Sept. 18) Celebrate Chinese culture as 20 illuminated, handmade Chinese lanterns up to 10 feet high will hang throughout the mall on the first two levels. There will also be live dance performances in Center Court and lantern making workshops at Community Hub on Main Level that will round out the week-long happenings.

Circus Vazquez Garden State Plaza Mall, Paramus: Sept. 9 – 26 Woodbridge Center Mall, Sept. 30 – Oct. 10 Every day, varying times See unforgettable one-of-a-kind performances by an international all-human cast of circus superstars in this exciting all-new show. The new 2022 is presented in English for the first time. The Living Portrait of NYC West 23rd Street, New York Daily (Sept. 18 – 27) This free 10-day immersive experience showcases the resilience and brilliance of New York. The multimedia, multi-sensory experience will display fascinating data, images and audioscapes that evoke the creativity and vibrancy of the city, as well as intimate personal stories and unique journeys that bring the neighborhoods to life.

Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum New York, New York Fridays (through September) Enjoy the history and magic of the Intrepid for free on select Fridays through September.

Stargazing Boat Cruises Belmar Fridays and Saturdays (through September) Take a sail out to the ocean while gazing up at the moon, stars and constellations.

Sunrise Wellness Sails Wilbert’s Marina, Lacey Twp. Saturdays (through September) Anyone who is interested in yoga, meditation and mindfulness is welcome to take part in a 3-hour Sunrise Sail along the Barnegat Bay. Sail into rejuvenation with Jaime Zazzara and Captain Dave from Jersey Coastal Adventures for the wellness retreat. There are options to enjoy a swim or float in a tube when the boat anchors out at sea.

Chowder Traveling Taster Beach Haven Through Sept. 30 You can join the Chowder Trail as a VIP Traveling Taster: visit every stop along the way in a day or take the whole month of September to taste and visit the LBI Region. The month-long cookoff ends with the Chowderfest celebration on Oct. 1.

Broadway @GSPlaza Westfield Garden State Plaza, Paramus Saturdays (through Oct. 22) Each week, see a different Broadway performance of a Disney musical geared toward kids.

Fall Festival Days Happy Day Farm, Manalapan Through Oct. 30 Spend all day with the kids at the sunflower field, Pumpkinville, corn maze, pig races, tractor rides, fun slide, feeding zoo and more – there are over 35 activities included with admission!

Scarecrows in the Village Peddler’s Village, New Hope, PA Every day (through Oct. 31) One hundred scarecrows handmade by Philly-area residents and organizations line the paths of the village. The display is free and on view every day through Oct. 31. Visitors can vote on their favorites through Oct. 10.

Art Exhibit: Joe Whale AKA “Doodle Boy” Through Oct. 31 Asbury Ocean Club, Asbury Park Be part of the debut of this brand new art gallery, which will feature works from 12-year-old internationally acclaimed artist Joe Whale, also known as “Doodle Boy.” Inspired by his life and interests, his black-and-white drawings sprawl across numerous surfaces, including murals, canvases and even books.

Outdoor Walking Tours Princeton University Art Museum, Princeton Saturdays and Sundays (through Nov. 20) Princeton University is home to one of the country’s most significant collections of 20th- and 21st-century public sculpture.
