The best cat toys and treats for under $20

Whether you’re a dog person or a cat person like me, you have to admit that the latter pet is significantly harder to entertain. That’s where this list comes in: I’ve had a few cats in my life, and have tried all sorts of toys and treats to see what works best and what they seem to like the most, and this list features some of my favorites.

Kitty Love Bubbles 4-Ounce Catnip Bubbles, $5.99

Most cats absolutely love catnip: Some lick it, others play with toys infused with it, and others just roll around in it like Teri Garr in “Young Frankenstein.” But there’s another way to get your cat its beloved catnip that’s even more fun: Grab a bottle of catnip bubbles!

Just like the bubbles that you used to play with when you were a kid, you blow bubbles from this container and your cat will instinctively want to play with them and pop them – because these bubbles are infused with catnip!

WoLover Natural Matatabi Silvervine Sticks (11-Pack), $5.99

While catnip seems to be by far the most popular treat for cats to really get them going, it doesn’t really do anything for some cats. Personally, I’ve tried catnip in many different forms and my cat just never really seemed to care.

Then I heard about silvervine sticks, and had to give them a try. I’ve never seen her go so crazy for anything in her life! She grabs it, plays with it, chews on it, and just absolutely loves them. This 11-piece bag of silvervine sticks will last you months and only costs $6. What do you have to lose?

Depets Cat Telescoping Wand with Bells and Feathers, $5.39

Cats love to chase things. We all know that. But that doesn’t mean you need to just opt for a laser point like every other cat owner. One of my cat’s personal favorites is a telescoping wand with bells and feathers on it.

The great thing about these wands is that you can play with your cat in different ways every time. You can make the toy jump around the room like a bunny. You can swing it around in circles through the air, run it along furniture and ring the bells, whatever you want. Your cat will love the feathers and the bells’ noises, and they’ll never get bored since you can switch it up so much.

UPSKY Roller 3-Level Turntable with Balls, $11.59

If you’ve ever given your cat balls to play with, you know that they love to smack them and chase them around – but they just never seem to last. It’s like your cat purposely plays with them in such a way that the balls get lost under furniture, behind the fridge, or somewhere else.

Instead, get a toy that the balls never fall out of yet your cat can chase them around all day. With this 3-level turntable, your cat will be able to play with a ball on each level and smack them around. Even as the balls circle the turntable and grab your cat’s attention, they’ll stay put along the tracks and never get lost again!

Andiker Interactive Spring Loaded Plush Mouse Toy, $10.99

Remember the wildly popular cartoon “Tom and Jerry?” What am I talking about, of course you do. Well, it’s time to let your cat’s natural instincts run wild as they go after their very own Jerry all day long.

No, I’m not saying to release live mice inside your home – rather, get this spring-loaded mouse toy set up and your cat can go all day. The plush design is soft on their claws and teeth, and the spring-loaded mechanism makes the mouse seem alive.

WWVVPET Interactive Self-Rotating Rechargeable Smart Ball, $12.99

We mentioned above how much cats love playing with balls, but come on – It’s 2021, let’s get something a bit more advanced than standard plastic balls. Ask and you shall receive, because you can get rechargeable smart balls that will keep your cat on its toes.

This smart ball from WWVVPET includes a red LED light and a self-rotating mechanism. So when it’s playtime, the ball will roll itself and keep moving. The mechanism allows it to change direction if your cat smacks it or it bounces off something, and the LED light makes it even more enticing to chase.

ASITA 5-Way Collapsible Cat Tunnel with Toy and Bell, $16.99

We all know that cats love boxes and squeezing into tight spaces. But something you may not know is that cats absolutely love tunnels. They’re confined, dark, and help the animal feel a sense of protection. That and they also provide ample opportunity for your cat to hunt, since they can hide in the tunnels and pounce.

While there are all sorts of intricate tunnel systems out there, this simple 5-way tunnel was perfect for my place. The collapsible design makes it easy to store and move, and my cat loves to hide in there and play. Heck, if the vacuum is running, she’ll run to her tunnels and hide. It’s her single favorite place in the house!
