2022 Cuyahoga County Fair opening day
BEREA, Ohio -- There’s no mistaking it when you walk inside the front gate and smell the fried … well, everything: You have arrived at the Cuyahoga County Fair.
It seems to me there are a few kinds of people who go to the fair, which opened Tuesday -- those who come to ride, those who come to eat, and those with their eyes on the prize. I mean, who doesn’t want to take home a 4-foot inflatable alien?
If you come for the food, there’s pretty much nothing you can’t get -- except something healthy. You have your choice of a plethora of fried foods, pizzas, Stromboli, barbecued sandwiches, grilled corn, ice cream, and, of course, elephant ears. And, much, much more.
And if rides are your thing, there are bumper cars, a couple of Ferris wheels, merry-go-rounds, kiddie rides, a handful of mechanical bulls, a fun house and a few of those rides that spin you around so fast, you wish you didn’t eat before buckling in.
For those who want to return home with a big prize, there are dozens of skill games to try to win that giant stuffed dog for that special someone.
There’s plenty more to see too, including live animals, award-winning vegetables and baked goodies, arts & crafts, as well as plenty of entertainment such as live music, magicians, harness racing, a demolition derby and a chainsaw carver.
The Cuyahoga County Fair runs daily through Sunday, Aug. 14. General admission tickets are $10, with children under 3 free. Admission tickets do not include midway rides, games and most grandstand shows and events. Tickets and wristbands for rides can be purchased at a few ticket booths along the midway.
General admission tickets and tickets for required grandstand shows are available at the gate or you can buy them online. Check out a list of daily events.
Hours are noon-11 p.m. Wednesday-Friday; 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday; and noon-10 p.m. on Sunday. The entrance to the fairgrounds is located at 19201 East Bagley Road in Middleburg Heights. Parking is free.
