MEMPHIS, Tenn. — UPDATE 3:01 P.M. 6/23/2022

The 2-month-old gray tabby has been returned, according to Memphis Animal Services (MAS).

On Wednesday, June 22, MAS posted on Facebook that if the kitten was returned by 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, that no charges would be pressed against the people who took the kitten from the animal shelter.

Memphis Police said the value of the kitten at $310. Memphis Animal Services clarified that amount saying that “while pets are priceless, our best estimate was our average cost to care for a pet in our care, which includes feeding, housing, staff to care for them, medical care, etc.”

FOX13 is working to learn more about the alleged thieves and if any charges will be filed in this case.

Memphis Animal Services (MAS) is asking people to be on the lookout after two women stole a kitten from their animal shelter.

A gray tabby kitten, only two months old, was stolen from the facility on Monday, June 20, according to Memphis Animal Services.

Memphis Police said that two women entered the building, removed the kitten from its cage and stuffed it in a purse before walking out of the business.

That 2-month-old gray tabby is worth $310, according to Memphis Police.

After taking the kitten, the two women jumped into a silver Camaro and sped off, police said.

“We are extending an offer to the people responsible for this theft: bring the kitten back to MAS unharmed by 4pm Thursday 6/23/22, and we will not pursue charges against you,” Memphis Animal Services said on Facebook.
